Virus protection for NTT DoCoMo FOMA mobile phones

November 17, 2004

McAfee, the provider of intrusion prevention solutions, announced that NTT DoCoMo will provide consumers with McAfee VirusScan Content Scanning technology, jointly developed with NTT DoCoMo, as a built-in service on the new FOMA901i series 3G mobile phones.

The built-in McAfee VirusScan technology in the FOMA mobile phones is a market-first in the mobile device arena, designed to provide protection against future mobile threats.

"The recent discovery of worms like 'Cabir' demonstrate the need for security solutions specifically designed to protect consumers from harmful mobile viruses," said Victor Kouznetsov, senior vice president of McAfee Mobile Solutions.

"NTT DoCoMo has always designed its mobile phones with extra attention paid to security, and as such NTT DoCoMo's mobile phones have been safe and secure. Nevertheless, since January 2002, NTT DoCoMo and McAfee have engaged in the development activity with the understanding that security will become increasingly important as future mobile phones come packed with even greater features, such as those from advancement in existing functionalities, introduction of PC technologies, all the while with phones becoming more global. We are happy that the technology jointly developed using McAfee's security technology and NTT DoCoMo's mobile technology is incorporated into NTT DoCoMo's mobile phones," said Mr. Koji Chiba, Managing Director of NTT DoCoMo's Customer Equipment Development Department.
