Vodafone KK stepping up 3G promotion

November 21, 2004

Japan's Vodafone KK is stepping up promotion of its upcoming 3G mobile phones for Christmas by enlisting three new Japanese celebrities.

Celebrities Rosa Kato, Ryuta Sato, and Kuranosuke Sasaki, will join Yu Yamada, who previously appeared in Vodafone KK advertisements, in the new campaign.

The adverts will focus on the celebrity expressions of enjoyment when using Vodafone KK's new 3G services, and convey the message that anyone can enjoy the new handsets and the new services, such as Sha-mail video messages, video conferencing and global roaming.

The first advertisement, featuring all four celebrities, will appear on TV on November 24 to build up anticipation and excitement for the new 3G services. It will be followed by advertisements in a variety of media.

Vodafone KK in September announced seven new 902/802/702 series handsets for the Christmas period. The company is the third largest mobile operator in Japan with 15 million customers while it has 260,000 customers on its 3G service.
