NTT DoCoMo to change launch date for SH901iC 3G FOMA Handset

November 25, 2004

NTT DoCoMo announced they will change the launch date for the "SH901iC" 3G FOMA handset, which was unveiled on November 17 and had been planned to be marketed on November 26, 2004.

The handset, features virus scan functions and an enhanced audio system.

It has a surround-type 3D audio system for ringing-tones with twin speakers, i-appli games and security scan for automatically checking whether data acquired from outside contain viruses, the mobile phone service operator said.

The company said the audio system "gives users the sensation of being surrounded 360 degrees by sound when listening to ringing tones and other audio content."

The SH901iC is equipped with Sony's IC card technology that enables the handsets to function as electronic money.

Among other features of the handset, the capacity for mail attachments was increased from 100 kilobytes in the previous series to 500 kb so that users can send one mega-pixel images and longer, high-quality files, the company said.

The new handsets are expected to sell for around 35,000 yen (US$337).
