Bell Canada delivers EV-DO service to Western Canada

November 15, 2005

Bell Canada announced the availability of its new mobile data network, EV-DO (Evolution Data Optimized) to Western Canada. The technology is the 3G of wireless networks and delivers data at unprecedented download rates of up to 2.4Mbps. Bell Mobility users in Vancouver, British Columbia and both Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta will now immediately enjoy the benefits of a 3G network, related products and services.

"Bell is excited to expand its EV-DO coverage to Western Canada," said Paul Healey, President, Western Canada, Bell Mobility. "EV-DO provides Canadians with highly advanced next generation services not previously available. Two weeks ago the EV-DO network was rolled out in Toronto and Montreal along with three powerful EV-DO devices. Today, we are expanding the EV-DO experience to Western Canada."

Bell's EV-DO network offers end-users data transmission speeds much faster than existing networks in Canada, allowing for streaming video, high-speed surfing and one megabyte file downloads in 20 seconds or less, with an average speed that varies between 400kbps - 700kbps. With its unprecedented speed, EV-DO will deliver a new generation of sophisticated wireless data solutions as well as fuel the speed and potential for current tools like e-mail, file downloads, instant messaging, and games.

Bell's EV-DO was announced on October 31st, 2005 in Toronto, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec and now includes service in Vancouver, British Columbia, Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta.
