TT dotcom officially receives 3G spectrum

November 13, 2006

Having satisfied all conditions, TT dotCom Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of TIME dotCom Berhad was officially issued with the 3G spectrum assignment by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

The IMT-2000 UMTS spectrum assignment covers the 1965-1980 MHz, 2155-2170 MHz and 2010-2015 MHz frequency bands. The licence is valid for the period of 8 November 2006 to 1 April 2018.

TIME will use HSDPA to offer next generation 3G broadband and mobile products. The Company is planning for a commercial launch by the second quarter of 2007.

TIME had undertaken a pilot trial in the Golden Triangle area of Kuala Lumpur between May and August 2006, which tested the functionality and capability of High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) networks.

The results of trial were presented to the Energy, Water and Communications Minister Dato' Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik in August, which also highlighted TIME's next generation 3G plans and overall strategy.

"We thank MCMC and the Ministry of Energy, Water and Communications for entrusting TIME with this spectrum assignment. We have formulated a detailed and robust implementation plan that will serve as a guide in our next generation 3G service delivery," said Chairman Dato' Wan Muhamad Wan Ibrahim.

He added: "TIME's next generation 3G plans form the core component of TIME's future strategy and development. TIME will leverage on its existing assets to enhance its product offerings and strengthen existing products. Consumers can therefore expect to derive substantial benefits from TIME's next generation 3G plans."
