Teligent chooses Tektronix' Spectra2 for testing

November 30, 2006

Tektronix has announced that Teligent has chosen the Tektronix Spectra2 portable diagnostics platform and conformance test suites to provide on-site testing and analysis of its voicemail and IP-based switch services in 3G/IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) compatible next generation networks.

The Tektronix Spectra2 hardware and conformance suites, which have been supplied by Swedish-based Tektronix representative Electryon, provide Teligent with highly integrated, portable solutions that allow the company to simulate load conditions, as well as monitor and test voicemail and SoftSwitch implementations. The Spectra2 solution directly addresses Teligent's need to test legacy PSTN and converged network signaling and network elements from a single, comprehensive multi-user platform.

"Reliability, stability and quality of next generation messaging and VoIP solutions are vital to the success of IP-based communication services," says Martin Landhage, system test engineer at Teligent. "The Spectra2 interface is very user-friendly, which not only reduces training requirements but lowers tool operation overhead, allowing the user to concentrate on performing the actual test. This saves a lot of time during product verification and test."

He adds: "The test cases are very easy to run. Deploying the Tektronix conformance suites on portable hardware to simulate, monitor and test a range of load conditions meeting customer requirements and standards allows us to quickly optimize service quality and performance on a case-by-case basis."

Teligent is using the Spectra2 ISUP (ISDN User Part) capability to validate voicemail signaling and media performance. The Spectra2 generator application allows bulk call generation of ISUP Signaling with associated media, and also supports low- and high-speed SS7 signaling links (SS7 over ATM, HDLC and SIGTRAN). The Spectra2 SIP and Megaco (Media Gateway Controller) test cases provide Teligent with the ability to analyze SoftSwitch performance. In both cases, all load generation, monitoring and testing functionality is provided by the portable Spectra2 hardware and software.

"The Spectra2 solution is a highly evolved platform for VoIP, PSTN and converged networks that helps Teligent serve its customers in today's integrated communications environment," said Richard Kenedi, Senior Director, Network Diagnostics, Tektronix. "We focused our development to ensure Spectra2 delivers the powerful load generation, SIP testing, SS7 and IMS core testing solutions our customers need. We also continue to deliver these powerful capabilities in the integrated, easy-to-use portable format Spectra2 customers appreciate, which keeps them returning to Tektronix for their IP diagnostics communications solutions."

Teligent delivers IN value-added services and applications for mobile and fixed line network service operators using the Teligent Application Server. This scalable, carrier grade multi-service platform supports next generation network capabilities and is compatible with 3G/IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) open service architectures. The platform allows the company to provide key service deliverables, including multimedia message centre functionality and Teligent SoftSwitch, an IP-based class 5 switch that supports the supplementary services of PSTN networks, along with multimedia capabilities and features enabled by new next generation architectures and protocols.
