RADCOM to Unveil The UMTS Consultant at UMTS Congress 2001

date: October 17, 2001

RADCOM, network test and quality management solutions provider, will unveil its UMTS Consultant at The UMTS Congress 2001 to be held in Barcelona, Spain on October 17 - 19, 2001.

The UMTS Consultant is designed to facilitate the development and deployment of wireless multimedia applications and services for a global market that analysts estimate will grow to 2 billion users by 2010.

The Technology

Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) is a 3G mobile communications system that falls into the framework of the ITU standard IMT-2000. Major telecommunications operators and manufacturers worldwide, including BT Wireless, are currently staging UMTS-technology based field trials in several European countries. Because of its ability to deliver low-cost, high-capacity, mobile communications at data rates of up to 2Mbit per second, UMTS is an enabling technology for delivery of voice, data and video via fixed, wireless and satellite networks.

The Challenge

Ensuring Quality of Service from the user's perspective is a major challenge in designing and deploying UMTS-based networks, services and applications. Pre-deployment testing to diagnose and resolve problems such as poor signaling quality, delay, jitter and loss requires analysis of both the signaling and user planes.

The Solution

The UMTS Consultant provides both real-time and off-line session-level analysis of UMTS network traffic, uncovers problems and allows 7-layer analysis and troubleshooting of both the signaling and user planes. It address key testing issues including network functionality and configuration; it enables fine-tuning for optimization of network performance and capacity; and it performs fast and efficient troubleshooting of Quality of Service problems. "The UMTS consultant is an essential tool for vendors and wireless operators involved in the design, testing and deployment of UMTS networks," Says Doron Milchtaich, RADCOM's Cellular Technologies Product Manager. "As UMTS is a relatively new and very complex environment, our customers need a solution that will allow them to analyze, test and troubleshoot UMTS networks, applications and services from the frame level to the network layer. RADCOM's UMTS Consultant is that solution."
