AudioCodes Announces New Stretto cPCI Board Media Gateway for UMTS or CDMA Networks

date: October 17, 2001

AudioCodes, a provider of Voice over Packet (IP and ATM) media gateway technologies to OEMs, today announced two new additions to the Stretto Wireless Media Gateway family of products with the introduction of the Stretto UMTS Media Gateway cPCI Board (SB-1610-UMTS) and the Stretto CDMA Media Gateway cPCI Board (SB-1610-CDMA). These media gateways are the industry's first Compact-PCI (cPCI) cellular media gateway boards that support 480 UMTS AMR channels or 360 CDMA EVRC channels, as well as PSTN, ATM and IP network terminations. The Stretto Wireless Media Gateway cPCI Boards enable OEMs to build leading edge, cost-effective, high density media gateways to replace legacy circuit-switched Mobile Switching Centers (MSCs).

The cellular marketplace continues to offer growth opportunities within the overall telecom marketplace. "AudioCodes continues to lead the market in supplying enabling technologies for the Voice over Packet marketplace. AudioCodes is well positioned to supply OEMs with high density, industry standard cPCI Media Gateway boards capable of operating within ATM and/or IP packet backbone networks," said Rich Poole, Wireless Solutions Director of AudioCodes' Access and Switching Business Center.

With up to 480 AMR channels on a single cPCI board, the Stretto 3G UMTS Media Gateway cPCI Board provides a high channel density, standards compliant cellular media gateway that includes interfaces and functions required to operate as a 3G UMTS media gateway. It is designed for OEMs to deploy 3GPP Release 1999 compliant, ATM-based Media Gateways with MSC Server control as full MSC replacements. This same gateway can easily migrate to a 3GPP Release 4 IP-based core network. As optional initial steps for existing 2G networks, the Stretto 3G UMTS Media Gateway cPCI Board can be deployed as a Voice over Packet (IP or ATM) backbone replacement network using a packet-based Gateway-MSC application.

With up to 360 EVRC channels on a single cPCI board, the Stretto CDMA Media Gateway cPCI Board provides cost-effective, standards compliant, carrier grade media gateway solutions. The Stretto CDMA cPCI Board provides OEMs with a market ready, CDMA media gateway on a cPCI board that is ready for IP-based deployments within 3G and 2G CDMA networks. It can be combined with a CDMA MSC Server to provide a Next Generation MSC. With standards-based control interfaces like MGCP and H.248 for media control, ATM and IP signaling for transport control, MFC-R2, CAS, MF-R1, and ISDN for PSTN signaling, and SNMP for OSS interface, OEM vendors can easily integrate the Stretto UMTS and CDMA cPCI Boards into their cPCI-based cellular media gateway solutions.
