Tekelec Enhances Its Leading 3G Testing Portfoliodate: October 18, 2001 Tekelec announced today enhancements to its leading 3G test suite. A new release of the company's diagnostic solution, MGTS, provides new features and increased packet-handling capability for UMTS networks. UMTS enables telecommunications service providers to offer high-speed multi-media applications to mobile subscribers. The Tekelec MGTS UMTS simulates UMTS node types, enabling service providers to perform functional and capacity testing of UMTS systems. The latest release tests IU and IUB interfaces in the UMTS network and supports the December 2000 protocol standards for these interfaces. The enhancement provides support for rate control and error-handling features on the IU interface. David Hammond, director of marketing in the Tekelec Network Diagnostics Division, explains, "The Tekelec MGTS product line tests a variety of technologies and ensures interoperability - on a single diagnostic platform. Tekelec is one of the first companies to provide diagnostic support for the December 2000 protocol standards for UMTS interfaces. We continue to demonstrate our commitment to supporting evolving standards as they are adopted." Lee Smith, vice president and general manager of Tekelec's Network Diagnostics Division, adds, "The Tekelec MGTS product line is the market leader in functional and load testing for 3G networks and equipment. Virtually every major 3G vendor worldwide is using MGTS to help meet delivery obligations. These companies are deploying MGTS for a more robust method of ensuring network reliability, one that addresses convergence and acknowledges new demands on networks, including the ability to transmit multiple types of media at varying speeds."
