UTStarcom Signs 3G W-CDMA Partnership Deal With Matsushita Communication Industrialdate: October 19, 2001 UTStarcom, a provider of wireless, wireline and broadband access equipment, announced a strategic partnership with Matsushita Communication Industrial, best known worldwide for its Panasonic brand of digital communication products, to develop a complete end-to-end 3G W-CDMA standard compliant system. The partnership will officially be launched on the opening day of the PT/WIRELESS AND NETWORKS COMM CHINA 2001 Trade Show in Beijing, China from October 23 to 27. During the trade show, various 3G voice and data applications on the W-CDMA system provided by UTStarcom and Matsushita Communication Industrial will be demonstrated. "UTStarcom has been focused on developing its 3G platform for several years, and with the IP-based core-network, our system is flexible to support multiple access technologies and can easily add new services," said Hong Lu, President and CEO of UTStarcom. "We are dedicated to leading the technology development for 3G, especially in emerging markets such as China. Our goal is to provide best -of-breed solutions for these markets, such as what we have done with our tremendously successful PAS systems. We are especially pleased to be working with such a strong partner, Matsushita Communication Industrial, on such an important endeavor." Lu added, "UTStarcom's 3G platform supports both W-CDMA and TD-SCDMA standards allowing for greater operator flexibility." With this partnership, UTStarcom and Matsushita Communication Industrial can now provide end-to-end W-CDMA solutions targeting the next generation of communications systems in the global telecommunications marketplace.
