3G Infrastructure Services signs agreement with Netel ABdate: October 23, 2001 3G Infrastructure Services AB has signed an agreement with Netel AB, a wholly owned subsidiary of Peab. The agreement relates to the planning, construction and installation of UMTS base stations. The two Swedish mobile operators Hi3G and Europolitan Vodafone have decided to build and operate a common infrastructure for third generation mobile telephony, UMTS, outside the major urban areas. This will be built and operated by the jointly owned company, 3G Infrastructure Services AB, and will be integrated with the operators’ respective infrastructure, currently being built separately by both operators in Stockholm , Gothenburg, Malmö and Karlskrona. Netel’s task is to assist 3G Infrastructure Services AB in the construction of base stations for the shared infrastructure. This work includes identifying suitable locations for base stations, negotiating for the rights to their use and applying for planning permission, otherwise known as site acquisition, as well as planning, construction and installation. The frame agreement applies initially to 300 base stations, and 3G Infrastructure Services will have an option on extending its order until 31 December 2003 .
