Motorola, China Unicom Make Live CDMA 1X Data Call in China

Motorola made its first live CDMA 1X data call successfully in China yesterday in a live demonstration at PT Wireless & Networks Comm China 2001 in Beijing, demonstrating to Chinese telecom operators, the company's leadership in CDMA technology.

Working with China Unicom, a major telecom operator in China, Motorola demonstrated both multi-media wireless video streaming and high-speed web browsing at the Motorola booth during PT Wireless. The demonstration was conducted over a live CDMA 1X trial system, built jointly by Motorola and China Unicom, Beijing Branch. The Motorola V67handset was used for the demonstration. Motorola is the first company in China that achieved the data call with its own CDMA 1X system and handset.

The live demonstration showed that Motorola has expedited its pace to promote future CDMA solutions in the China market. In addition to the CDMA 1X trial system developed jointly with China Unicom, Beijing Branch, Motorola recently demonstrated CDMA 2000 EV-DV 3G technology in China for the first time, at the Shenzhen High-Tech Fair held on October 12th -- 17th.

CDMA 1X technology is gaining popularity. To date, Motorola has been awarded 10 commercial contracts worldwide to provide CDMA 1X solutions in Japan, the United States, Brazil, Malaysia and the Ukraine.
