BT in talks with KPNdate: October 29, 2001 KPN Telecom NV confirmed on Sunday it was in talks with mm02 (BT) about sharing its 3G mobile phone infrastructure in Holland.. ``We are in talks with several parties on (3G) cost sharing in the Netherlands'' and this included BT, KPN Telecom spokesman Marinus Potman told the press, but he declined to comment on specific details. The Sunday Business newspaper reported BT and KPN were in talks and that a deal to allow mmo2, BT's demerging mobile division, to share expenses with KPN Mobile could produce savings of almost one billion pounds ($1.43 billion). ``Savings from sharing 3G networks can be in the range of 20 to 40 percent of investments in the network depending on the kind of cooperation,'' Potman said. KPN gained a 3G UMTS license in the Netherlands last year for 1.567 billion guilders ($634.1 million). According to a source quoted by the Sunday Business:``The talks are at a significant but delicate stage.''
