Verizon Wireless Expands Express Network
October 18, 2002
Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless service provider,
has expanded its high-speed wireless data network into the following
counties: Clallam, Grays Harbor, Island, Jefferson, King, Kitsap,
Mason, Pierce, San Juan, Skagit, Snohomish, Thurston and Whatcom.
Express Network(SM) enhances all levels of wireless data communications,
from full Internet access to e-mail and game playing.
This third generation (3G) network -- capable of data transmission
speeds in bursts up to 144 kilobits per second (kbps) -- also supports
enterprise applications, giving companies with mobile employees
tools for increased productivity and efficiency.
"3G from Verizon Wireless is here!" said Regional President Kelley
Kurtzman. "With average data transmission speeds between 40 and
60 kilobits per second, customers will experience speeds similar
to or better than dialing in from their home PC. What we're introducing
is true mobility -- the freedom of full Internet access, intranet
access and traditional e-mail functionality -- all via a laptop
computer or PDA device."
Express Network was launched earlier this year as part of the company's
initial rollout of high-speed wireless services, and is now available
coast to coast in more than 800 major cities.
Along with the freedom of widespread availability, Express Network
customers have a choice of affordable equipment options to best
suit their individual needs. The device options on the market today
have been field tested and refined, helping to deliver a consistently
high quality Express Network experience for Verizon Wireless customers.
The Verizon Wireless 2235 handset from Kyocera, the VX1 from LG
and the 9155-GPX from Audiovox, are compact high-speed wireless
phone options that function as a modem when used with a compatible
Mobile Office connectivity kit, sold separately, and laptop.
For customers who prefer a PC card for wireless data access, the
AirCard 555 from Sierra Wireless can be used with laptops and select
PDAs to access the Express Network. For the newest Express Network
experience, the recently launched Thera is the latest Windows Powered
Pocket PC and dual-band wireless phone.
Verizon Wireless offers a variety of pricing structures for wireless
data, including a plan that offers unlimited Express Network usage
for a flat rate of $99.99 per month, with some restrictions. With
Verizon Wireless' new Get Started Package, customers get one-month
access free and can take advantage of mail-in rebates on the latest
equipment -- for total savings of up to $149.99.
Other plans, based on voice or data usage are available for $35,
$55 and $75 per month for 150, 400 and 600 minutes of connection.
Verizon Wireless also offers per megabyte pricing -- $35 monthly
access for 10 MB, $55 monthly access for 20 MB, and $75 monthly
access for 40 MB of Express Network data sent and received.
