THQ Wireless and Hutchison 3G Agree Gaming Agreement
October 18, 2002
THQ® Wireless™, the wireless gaming subsidiary of leading videogame
publisher THQ Inc. and Hutchison 3G announced an agreement to develop
and publish premium licensed and non-licensed gaming and entertainment
content.
Hutchison 3G, who recently revealed the 3 brand identity for its
services worldwide, will initially make THQ content available in
the UK and then in other markets where Hutchison Whampoa has 3G
interests. Under the agreement, THQ will be publishing a range of
licensed and non-licensed titles throughout the next year that take
full advantage of 3's innovative products and services. 3's customers
will be able to play THQ's fast action, high-resolution, color games,
including World Wrestling Entertainment and Moto GP.
"The combination of THQ's premium content and 3's leading edge
network technology means consumers will be able to experience gameplay
that is both realistic and compelling," said Adam Comiskey, commercial
director, THQ Wireless. "Making our games available across Hutchison
3G's global businesses signifies THQ's commitment to the expanding
wireless gaming marketplace."
Lisa Gernon, strategy and marketing director, Hutchison 3G UK,
said: "We are building a completely new kind of consumer experience.
This is not simply a telephone that can take pictures or send text.
Compared to existing mobile data services, 3G is more like having
a broadband Internet connection in the palm of your hand."
Continued Gernon: "THQ's offering is unique. Our relationship is
a signal that not only will 3 offer consumers a multimedia communications
service without precedent, it will also offer them a powerful and
compelling mobile games platform."
