Romania government reveals 3G licence details
October 24, 2002
Romania's Communications and Information Technology Ministry has
announced that it will issue four third-generation (3G) licences
through an international tender.
The ministry said that the licences will be valid for 15 years,
with the possibility of extending them for a further 10 years.
Each licence will be sold for Euro35m and payments will be able
to be made in installments.
GSM operator MobiFon, backed by Vodafone and Canada's TIW, said
it plans to bid and France Telecom's Orange has already started
testing its UMTS network in Bucharest.
