Italian H3G announces 3G launch date
October 24, 2002
The Italian operator H3G, a unit of Hong Kong's Hutchison Whampoa
said it plans to launch 3G mobile services on November 4th in Italy.
It will make the operator the first in Italy to launch 3G wireless
services, ahead of its other 3G competitors.
The first handsets are expected to be dual mode capable of handling
video content and picture messaging. Handsets are estimated to cost
around US$250 after being subsidised.
The other Italian 3G license holders, Telecom Italia Mobile SpA,
Omnitel Vodafone and Wind SpA, said they plan to launch their 3G
services by the end of the year.
