CDMA conference focuses on 3G technology

October 28, 2002

The seventh CDMA International Conference, hosted in Korea will bring together around 500 government officials, industry experts and researches from around the world to talk about the future development of 3G CDMA technology issues. The four day conference, beginning October 29, is co-organized by the Korean Institute of Communication Sciences, the Institute of Electronics Engineers of Korea and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute.

Topics covered in the conference will include adoption and development of third-generation (3G) mobile telephony, wireless, multimedia Internet applications and Bluetooth.

"This conference will not only help engineers and researchers in the 3G and 4G mobile telecommunication field understand the pending issues, but it will find ways to lower technical barriers, to achieve common goals of building better information and telecommunication infrastructure," Oh Gil-rok, chairman of the meeting's International Advisory Committee, said.

South Korea is turning into an important test bed to develop 3G technology and applications. The four major operators in Korea have announced 1.8 trillion won will be used to invest in 3G networks and applications. A significant proportion of this amount is for deploying network and infrastructure for both EV-DO and wideband-CDMA services.
