SK Telecom to sell its expertise
October 29, 2002
Leading South Korean mobile operator SK Telecom has held talks
with Vodafone and Telefonica in an effort to sell its expertise
in 3G wireless Internet services overseas, an UK newspaper reported
yesterday.
In the interview with Yoo Hyun-oh, vice president of SK Telecom's
Internet strategy division, the newspaper reported that SK Telecom
hopes to help operators in other countries to develop their infrastructure,
technology and next generation services and content.
Vodafone and Telefonica are only two operators in a long list of
companies that SK Telecom has approached to offer their 3G know-how.
Talks with Vodafone from the UK has only just started while talks
with Telefonica is well underway.
Even though SK Telecom has rolled out a CDMA mobile network, their
wireless Internet services are platform independent and is portable
to W-CDMA networks used in Europe.
