Indonesia awards 3G license to Cyber Access

PT Cyber Access Communications has won a bidding auction arranged by the government to provide advanced next generation 3G mobile services in Indonesia.

Few would have back the relatively unknown telecommunication player to win the auction but Cyber Access manage to pull off the amazing feat. The company beat more experienced firms in the sector such as PT Tira Austenite and PT Astratel Nusantara.

The Directorate General of Posts and Telecommunications said on Wednesday that Cyber Access earned the highest score of 87.55 during the assessment. The directorate said that the decision to award the 3G license to Cyber Access came down to the company's partners and affiliates in developing the services.

The Indonesian Cellular Phone Providers Association predicts that the number of cellular phone subscribers will grow by 16.4 million this year, up 43 percent from 11.4 million last year.
