Marconi improves 3G wireless network design

October 25, 2004

Marconi, announced the availability of Planet EV 4.0, the latest release of its next-generation wireless network design and optimization platform. Planet EV improves network efficiency, transforming service provider engineering environments by centralizing and automating previously separate and manual solutions and data flows.

A product of Marconi's Wireless business unit, Planet EV 4.0 is a multi- technology solution that incorporates the latest architecture and design components, including Microsoft .NET and Windows technologies, thus improving speed-to-market, performance, and ease-of-use as well as establishing a new industry benchmark for platform flexibility and useful life.

Complementing the advantages of centralization and integrated applications, Planet EV embraces a truly open philosophy, enabling customers to quickly and fully utilize all of the platform features. Because of its fully integrated nature, Planet EV also provides a turnkey solution for balanced optimization of network coverage, capacity, quality and cost objectives for 2G and 3G networks.

As networks evolve, simply planning for coverage is no longer the primary concern. The focus is now on ensuring optimal overall network performance while tightly managing cost objectives, and Planet EV 4.0 builds upon the industry's first fully integrated wireless design and optimization platform, allowing service providers to take maximum advantage of their resources.

"We are capturing significant market acceptance with operators of all sizes," said Chip Wagner, head of Marconi's Wireless business unit. "With much of our customer base already converting, we knew that we had hit the nail on the head with Planet EV. Our R&D effort is continuing at full stride, and we're now looking to provide another Planet innovation to improve rollout planning for 3G networks."
