Vodafone Netherlands introduces 3G/UMTS router

October 11, 2005

Vodafone Netherlands introduced the 3G/UMTS Router, a mobile mini-hotspot intended for business customers and the result of a collaboration between Vodafone and Cisco. With 3G/UMTS Router five employees can work simultaneously and wireless, on their company network, at all times and in all places with their laptop. With this introduction Vodafone takes a new step in the field of mobile working via UMTS.

The 3G/UMTS Router from Vodafone is easy to use in all conceivable locations and can, for example, be applied completely practically and cost-efficiently for teams that work outside the head office on a regular basis, such as accountancies, consultants, contractors or media organisations.

As soon as the mini-hotspot, with the size of a cigarette box, is switched on, access is offered automatically to the Internet and the laptops present can, for example, log on to their company network. When the laptops, nowadays standardly equipped with the required LAN-functionality, are working by means of the 3G/UMTS Router, a data card is no longer necessary for the separate laptops. The access to the company network, e-mail and Internet, is optimally secured. The 3G/UMTS Router also offers connections for peripheral equipment such as a printer. The Router is offered with several tariff structures, adapted to the needs of the customer.

"With the 3G/UMTS Router it becomes even easier and more financially attractive for teams to work on the road, in the same way as in the office," according to Jeroen Hoencamp, Sales Director of Vodafone Netherlands. "Vodafone is the number 1 supplier of fast mobile data services to companies. This initiative, in combination with clear and transparent data tariffs, is optimally tailored to the mobile data requirements of our business customers."

"Mobile communication is profoundly changing the business world, and companies that choose mobile solutions will reinforce their competitive position as a result," according to Edwin Paalvast, EMEA Mobility Director of Cisco-Linksys. "Cisco's collaboration with Vodafone is an example of how leading companies in the mobile market are combining technology and knowledge to bring products and services more rapidly to the market and to offer substantial added value to the end-users."

The 3G/UMTS Router is a combination of the Wireless G Router of Cisco/Linksys, through which Wireless LAN-access is offered for laptop users, and the Vodafone Mobile Connect UMTS data card.
