QUALCOMM announces on-time sampling of HSDPA solution

October 23, 2005

QUALCOMM announced the on-time sampling of the Mobile Station Modem (MSM) MSM6280 solution supporting HSDPA technology, an evolution of the WCDMA (UMTS) standard 3GPP Release 5.0. The MSM6280 chipset is the second complete HSDPA solution from the Company and supports data speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps. The MSM6280 solution integrates advanced receiver technologies such as Receive Diversity and Equalizer for increased data throughput and network capacity.

"The sampling of the MSM6280 chipset enables us to offer our partners the ability to meet the growing demand for full-featured data services and compelling multimedia capabilities on wireless devices," said Dr. Sanjay K. Jha, president of QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies.

The MSM6280 chipset is pin-, RF- and software API-compatible with QUALCOMM's first HSDPA solution, the MSM6275 chipset, allowing handset manufacturers to leverage existing hardware and software platforms for faster time to market and reduced development costs. Additionally, the MSM6280 interfaces with the Company's RF CMOS single-chip transceiver and multi-band receiver devices, enabling more integrated and cost-effective solutions.

The MSM6280 single-chip baseband supports WCDMA (UMTS)/HSDPA and GSM/GPRS/EDGE (EGPRS) standards and integrates a wide range of multimedia features, including advanced video, audio, imaging and 3D graphics capabilities.
