Over 10 million 3G handsets use Ericsson technology
October 23, 2005
Ericsson's confirmed more than 10 million of the world's WCDMA (3G) handsets are based on Ericsson technology.
Ericsson Mobile Platforms took an early lead in 3G with an estimated 30 percent market share in WCDMA handset sales during 2004. Several of the top handset manufacturers in the world have license agreements with Ericsson Mobile Platforms for 3G platforms.
Since May 2004, Ericsson Mobile Platforms' customers have launched 23 3G handset models globally and the number of units shipped has exceeded 10 million units to date.
Handset manufacturers and operators appreciate the platforms' stability, interoperability, performance and reusability. The platform technology is based on Ericsson's global standardization in GSM, GPRS, EDGE and WCDMA, as well as on Ericsson's Intellectual Property Rights, which is one of the world's strongest IPR portfolios for 2.5 and 3G mobile systems.
