Helio Hybrid combines 3G and Wi-Fi access

October 4, 2006

HELIO LLC, the new mobile service for young, connected consumers, announced details for the Helio Hybrid, a comprehensive wireless solution for those who demand widespread broadband access. The Helio Hybrid combines a 3G card and a laptop's built-in Wi-Fi with easy software that switches between a nationwide 3G network, private and free Wi-Fi signals and a network of commercial Wi-Fi hot spots, all for one simple monthly fee.

"Helio members are always looking to stay connected to their world while they're out living life, whether on a mobile device, a laptop or both," said Sky Dayton, CEO, HELIO LLC. "By combining 3G and Wi-Fi access in a single package, we're giving them easy access to everything they care about without the hassle of multiple subscriptions and messy logins. This way Helions can text, surf, IM and do a little homework all at the same time."

Wi-Fi and Speedy 3G

The Helio Hybrid wireless connectivity package (Hybrid Connector software, a PCMCIA EV-DO card and a Data Connect membership for 3G and Wi-Fi hot spot roaming) releases members from the confines of wires and multiple paid hot spot logins, granting them freedom to access Internet services on-the-go. The package features an optimal combination of wireless connectivity with worldwide Wi-Fi roaming plus the power of speedy 3G.

Helio Hybrid users can easily manage their wireless connection to countless Wi-Fi hot spots and a nationwide 3G network. Provided software discovers and organizes available wireless connections including tens-of-thousands of free Wi-Fi hot spots worldwide, the over 55,000 commercial Wi-Fi hot spots in the Boingo Wireless network and 3G in more than 220 major U.S. markets - all at broadband speed. Whether accessing a Wi-Fi hot spot in an airport, logging on to the Internet from home or surfing the Web via 3G from the beach, the Helio Hybrid notifies users of the best performance connection available and seamlessly enables an optimum wireless experience.

Simple Access

Unlike other offerings that involve multiple products requiring several software programs, multiple logins and a stack of bills at the end of the month, the Helio Hybrid makes it easy for members to manage wireless networks from a single, simple interface with an easy-to-understand invoice. Whether connecting from a hot spot or switching to a 3G connection while on the move, Helio Hybrid enables access to the wireless world in a single package. Helio Hybrid also provides a searchable hot spot directory that is available offline for members looking to plan ahead.

"The potential for wireless connectivity is limitless, but the experience can be frustrating as you move from place to place and try to discover and connect to a hot spot or EV-DO network," said Greg Hayes, Head of Convergence, HELIO LLC. "The Helio Hybrid combines the power of Wi-Fi and EV-DO in a simple solution that fits perfectly into the mobile lifestyle of Helio members or anyone that wants to stay connected just about anywhere."
