Third Dutch Operator Launches HSDPA

October 9, 2006 - source: BWCS

KPN, the Dutch mobile operator, today announced the launch of its shiny new HSDPA services in its home territory. Initially, the services will be available only in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and other major Dutch cities. However, the operator says it will roll the network out to cover 90% of the Dutch population by the start of December this year.

According to KPN, its HSDPA service offers users download speeds of up to 1.8Mbps and upload speeds of up to 384kbps. The operator has introduced a new tariff level, Flat Fee Comfort, which costs euros 49.95 per month, and allows users to download data at reduced speeds of up to 768kbps, the customers still get maximum upload speeds of up to 384kbps. All users are given a data limit of 1GB per month.

KPN is also offering users the chance to sign up to a more powerful Flat Fee service for euros 79.95 which will allow them access to the "maximum available" download speed, but limit them to using 2GB per month of data transmission. KPN is the third operator to launch HSDPA in the Netherlands, following in the footsteps of T-Mobile and Vodafone.
