On2 to demonstrate video solutions for 2.5G and 3G networks

October 12, 2006

On2 Technologies, a provider of video compression solutions, will demonstrate its On2 TrueMobile video solution at 3GSM Asia 2006 in Singapore from October 16-22, at booth E22. On2 TrueMobile gives service providers and programmers the ability to deploy mobile video services quickly and affordably for any underlying 2.5G and 3G network. With a high compression scheme capable of delivering quality video at data rates as low as 20kbps, the On2 TrueMobile system supports a wide range of networks and devices.

The On2 TrueMobile system comprises high-efficiency encoders, servers, and an over-the-air downloadable client that enables video on a select set of the most popular 2.5G and 3G phones.

On2 will also demonstrate the capabilities of its latest video compression technology, On2 VP7, for 2.5G and 3G mobile video, as well as IP-based live video conferencing/messaging applications. On2 VP7 is designed to support video-on-demand streaming, live broadcasts such as DVB-H, two-way real time video conferencing, and video downloads. On2 VP7 is also used in the On2 TrueMobile system.

"On2 TrueMobile promises mass deployments of mobile video services over existing networks and devices without requiring expensive infrastructure build-outs or custom video handset distribution," said Bill Joll, president and CEO of On2. "On2 VP7 based solutions are a revolutionary approach for carriers to provide seamless coverage across their subscriber base and over existing devices through an over-the-air downloadable player, allowing fast roll out and adoption of such services."
