Comparing 3G to Wi-Fi and WiMax in providing data services

October 17, 2006

Research and Markets has announced the addition of In-Depth Analysis: 3G and Mobile Multimedia to their offering.

Third-generation wireless networks were touted as a way for mobile carriers to deliver multimedia content, particularly video entertainment and video conferencing.

We revealed several unexpected results concerning 3G in the US.

Over 1,000 respondents (including approximately 10% who have adopted 3G) weren't very interested in multimedia and entertainment; although, there was strong interest in other applications. 3G users were also more likely to want additional applications, and a large number indicated they would change carriers for 3G service.

In addition to survey results, this report reviews 3G initiatives and pricing for consumer and business 3G services in the US, Europe, and Asia.

There is also an evaluation of 3G compared with Wi-Fi and WiMax in providing mobile data services.

The report will help mobile carriers, application developers, and device vendors to capitalize on 3G by delivering high-demand services.
