October 17, 2006

Elektrobit announced that the development of the 3G S60 on Symbian reference smartphone is proceeding as planned. Elektrobit demonstrates a prototype at the Symbian Smartphoneshow. The company announced earlier this year at the 3GSM in Barcelona the development of the 3G reference phone together with Freescale Semiconductor.

"We are happy to demonstrate a prototype at the Symbian Smartphoneshow in London." says Arto Pietilä, Excecutive Vice President of Elektrobit. "Our reference phone will accelerate the time-to-market of new S60 phones and will give good possibilities to grow the S60 community. We have already signed our first Memorandum of Understanding for a full delivery of a smartphone via our ODPM business model, which shows that there is confidence in our development."

The reference phone, a trendy clamshell less than 90cc, is a mid tier product with attractive BOM. The form factor phone enables reduced R&D time, includes various operator requirements and gives flexibility to customization. - SW platform: Symbian OS 9.2 & S60 Third edition with feature pack 1
