Brazil Unlikely to Opt for 3G Beauty Paradedate: September 13, 2001 - source: BWCS
Qualcomm in Brazil is calling on the national regulator Anatel to make 3G licences available in the country for a nominal fee. According to reports in the local press, Qualcomm’s general manager in Brazil, Valerijonas Seivalos, has asked the regulator to offer concessions based on the technical abilities of operators, rather than try to raise large amounts of money. However, Anatel, which divides Brazil up into ten regions for licensing purposes, has previously recouped billions of dollars from the sale of mobile licences in the ten areas. Given this track record it appears unlikely to listen to Qualcomm’s pleas.
