Norway Gov set deadline on Mondaydate: September 15, 2001 The Norwegian government has set a new deadline of Monday for a new group to apply for the 3G mobile network license held by liquidated Broadband Mobile. The extension of the deadline came after a lawyer for Broadband Mobile told government officials that he had been contacted by a major European telecommunications operator that might be interested in buying the license. Norwegian regulators, who must approve a transfer of the Broadband Mobile license to a new owner, had set Friday morning as the original deadline for an application. Early this week, it has been reported that there has been a new mystery buyer who has taken over the business, but there is still confusion around which company it is. One source revealed to 3G Bulletin that Nadir Nalbant, a board member of Sense Communications, had secured the ownership rights to the company for a consortium of which Sense is a member. However, another source has informed 3G Bulletin that Hi3G Access is the most likely candidate to acquire the bankrupt license holder. However, Orange and Bane Tele are also thought to be interested in acquiring the company. The prospective buyers must buy Broadband Mobile because the licensing conditions state that the license itself can not be re-sold.
