3G Operator Makes Football Dealdate: September 15, 2001 3G Newsroom has learnt that a major European 3G operator and the European football's governing body UEFA has signed a deal worth $25million for four years to offer semi-live video and audio-streaming reports of Champions League matches and up to the minute results coverage for big games. The operator will be named in the next few days. The deal does not involve full video streaming but only a selection of clips to view for a small price. This is to ensure it does not contravene the rights of terrestrial broadcasters which worth over $150million in Europe. Handset holders with the operator will have free access to the audio-streaming reports and all other services such as stats and up-to-the minute match reports. The deal is to promote football in UEFA's 51 member countries.
