Audiovox Shipping CDMA2000 1X Wireless Technology- Enabled Handsetsdate: September 17, 2001 Audiovox Communications Corporation, a subsidiary of Audiovox Corporation and makers of CDMA handsets, announced that it was shipping its first wireless handsets using the new CDMA2000 1XRTT (1X) technology. Audiovox’s new CDM-9150 and the CDM-8150 phones, when used on carrier systems that support 3G CDMA2000 1X technology, will enable consumers to maximize the capabilities of the increased speed and bandwidth of next-generation networks, and significantly enhance data, video and text transmission and reception. Audiovox’s shipping of its CDM-9150 and CDM-8150 handsets will coincide with U.S. cellular carriers' introduction of their respective 3G CDMA2000 1XRTT systems. This new carrier technology will provide phone users with an unprecedented mobile data transmission speed of up to 144 kbps, supporting high-speed wireless connectivity for Web-browsing functions, E-mail, and mobile e-commerce functions while enabling simultaneous audio, video and text data services. "The availability of the CDM-9150 and CDM-8150 will facilitate the transition to 3G wireless communications across the U.S.," said Philip Christopher, President and CEO of Audiovox Communications Corporation. "As more and more U.S. wireless carriers launch their 1X technology systems, having high-quality, user-friendly 1X handsets, on hand, will help the carriers, and their respective customers, make the change to the increased speed and wider bandwidth of this next-generation technology. Audiovox is well-positioned to ensure that the carriers will be able to meet their customers’ demands for 1X-enabled handsets, hastening this technology evolution.” Audiovox’s CDM-9150 and CDM-8150 are both sleek, tri-mode, Web-browsing handsets operating on the 800 MHz Amps/CDMA and 1900 PCS frequencies. Both come equipped with the MSM-5105 chipset.
