SmartTrust Announces Launch of a 3G USIM Management Tooldate: September 26, 2001 Sonera SmartTrust has announced the launch of the SmartTrust Card Station, a point-of-sale software platform for mobile operators requiring vendor-independent management of both SIM and 3G USIM cards. USIMs (Universal Subscriber Identity Modules), like today's SIM cards, enable mobile operators to deploy and manage subscriber services, but within 3G networks. The SmartTrust Card Station allows a mobile operator's point-of-sales staff to locally manage a subscriber's SIM/USIM; this may include updating operator lists for roaming, transferring phone books, defining SMS parameters or simply copying the contents of an old SIM card to a new USIM. For operators running a network of subscribers with SIM/USIMs from more than one vendor, the SmartTrust Card Station has been developed to support cards from all major vendors, allowing operators a single point of control for an entire subscriber base and the ability to assign individual management tasks to individual card-types. "With its extensive partnership network that now covers over 20 SIM/USIM card vendors, SmartTrust is the only software vendor in the world with the proven position of delivering card-vendor independent SIM management platforms," explains Jarkko Rossi, Technical Product Manager at Sonera SmartTrust Ltd. "As with SIM-based service and device management platforms in the GSM world, SmartTrust aims to uphold its market leadership in the global 3G arena. SmartTrust Card Station is key to this success."
