Hutchison plans to buy more retail shops to sell 3G shops
September 4, 2002
Fresh from its 1.3 billion euro purchase of the Dutch-based drug
and beauty chain Kruidvat, Hutchison Whampoa said on Tuesday it
is shopping for further opportunities to add to its European retail
portfolio.
The Kruidvat deal last month bought Hong Kong-based Hutchison 1,900
stores in around Europe.
Hutchison's plans to sell its 3G mobile phones through its retail
portfolio chains and convert some of the stores into pure 3G distribution
outlets instead of starting new.
Hutchison Whampoa group managing director Canning Fok Kin-ning
said: "It is expensive to completely use our own stores for 3G."
