Vietnam not ready for 3G
September 9, 2002
Vietnamese telecoms officials are cautioning against accelerating
moves to provide 3G mobile phone services, saying the Southeast
Asian country is not yet ready to embrace the technology.
Le Nam Thang, deputy general director of the Department General
of Posts and Telecommunications, the industry's regulator, says
priority should be given to developing basic telecoms services before
investing in 3G.
"3G will develop strongly in countries that have a good telecoms
infrastructure by 2005, but it will happen much later in developing
countries like Vietnam," he told a seminar last week.
"At the moment Vietnam is not ready yet for 3G technology."
