Vodafone in talks with Sky
September 18, 2002

Watching TV on your mobile
will be the norm in the future |
There are rumors that Sky Television is in talks with Vodafone
to find new ways to deliver high data rate TV content to 3G mobile
phones. Sky is a pay television operator and has much success from
providing sports, entertainment and news. If the deal turns out
to be true then it is a major step forward for Vodafone as they
will able to supply news and sports video clips to users.
3G license holders are racing to team up with media groups to deliver
wireless applications and contents to 3G cellphones. Previously,
Hutchison has signed a deal with the FA Premier League to provide
footage of Premiership highlights. Users will be able to see clips
of matches and video of goals moments after they have been scored.
Telecom experts believe video content downloading will be one of
the major wireless applications of the 3G broadband market place
and which will take full advantage of the 2Mbps data speed.
