Sunday CEO predicts success for 3G
September 14, 2003
Managing Director of Hong Kong's Sunday Communications, Bruce Hicks,
said 3G services will play an important role in the future success of
the company.
Mr Hicks said, "It is ever more evident that a 3G license will be essential
for success in the future" and believed "that the key to success in 3G
services will be a cost-effective platform that delivers creative and
tailored services."
He went on to say data services "will become increasingly important with
the shift towards more data services and the introduction of 3G services."
He did not specify the launch date of 3G services, but said the company
"will only launch 3G at the optimum time."
The launch date is still far away, because the company "is still in continuing
discussion with a number of vendors and financial institutions" to fund
the project. Hence no vendors have been selected to start building the
3G network and analysts say it would normally take 30 months from start
to rollout date.
Sunday is one of the smallest wireless operator in Hong Kong and Orange, the
largest, which is a unit of Hutchison and is expecting to launch 3G services
early this October.
