KDDI passes the 10 million mark

KDDI, Japan's second largest wireless operator, said the number of its 3G mobile phone users has surpassed 10 million mark, widening a gap against NTT DoCoMo.

KDDI launched its CDMA200 1X mobile service, which supports fast voice, video and data communications, in April last year and has steadily garnered subscribers with competitive rates.

Its main rival NTT DoCoMo, which rolled out 3G in October 2001, had 785,800 3G users at the end of August. DoCoMo adopted the WCDMA 3G standard and Japan's smallest 3G operator, J-Phone, which also adopted the same 3G standard as DoCoMo has 75,100 users.
