Lucent successfully completes 3G WCDMA testing with multiple vendors in
China
September 17, 2003
Lucent Technologies announced today that it has successfully completed
interoperability testing of its 3G WCDMA systems with several key suppliers
of W-CDMA equipment in China, including Alcatel, Motorola and Zhong Xing
Telecommunications (ZTE) and Huawei. These successful tests highlight
the readiness of Lucent's W-CDMA equipment for commercial deployments
in China and other markets.
The testing program involved compatibility tests between Lucent's W-CDMA
radio access networks (including Lucent's Flexent OneBTS base station)
with core network solutions from the other participating suppliers. Additionally,
Lucent's core network solution was tested with the other suppliers' radio
access networks. In the course of the testing, Lucent successfully established
circuit and packet connections, completed multiple, simultaneous voice
calls, conducted high-speed data calls and delivered SMS two-way text
messages. The tests also included the demonstration of roaming between
2G and 3G networks, and verified support of a variety of critical mobility
and security features.
"These successful tests demonstrate that Lucent's W-CDMA systems meet
Chinese operators' requirements for multi-vendor compatibility, and also
address their reliability and performance needs," said Roger Derrien,
vice president for W-CDMA product management with Lucent's Mobility Solutions
Group. "Our W- CDMA customers can now deploy mobile networks using equipment
from multiple vendors with complete confidence that those systems will
work together seamlessly."
WCDMA is an advanced and efficient wireless technology being introduced
worldwide, and an international 3G standard established by the International
Telecommunications Union (ITU). W-CDMA is a spread-spectrum technology
designed to support the 3G-evolution needs of GSM, and other wireless
network operators.
