German Telekom to invest more money into 3G rollout

Germamy's Deutsche Telekom said it is to increase the company's investment budget strongly for this coming year in its units in Germany and US. A company spokesman said roughly Euro 300 million extra should be poured into Deutsche Telekom.

Thus, this will bring Telekom's 3G investment level over the billion Euro boundary for the first time. The company has already announced it spent Euro750 million in 3G wireless network in the previous year.

The extra Euro300 million will be used for further optimisation of the infrastructure and application/portal development, a company spokesman said. The company hopes to transfer a further Euro 2 billion to its sister company in the US, T-Mobile US.

The news came after the announcement of the company's new CEO Uwe Ricke. Before the appointment of his new position, he announced he has a positive view on 3G technology and expressed that UMTS and GPRS plays a key roll for the future development.
