3 Sweden selects Cluster Framework compression engine
September 20, 2003
Popwire announced the shipment of Cluster Framework, a compression engine,
to 3 Sweden, the first company to offer 3G mobile video communications
services in Sweden. The product is for broadcasting companies, media houses,
ISPs and mobile operators needing robust and reliable solutions that easily
scale with their business needs.
“In our business, having mission critical systems that scale well is
crucial. The Cluster Framework on the Sun Solaris Unix platform does just
that, and we are very pleased with Popwire and their products”, says Johan
Edlund, Head of Content Production at 3 Sweden.
The Popwire Cluster Framework is designed to enhance the power of Popwire’s
high-end encoding product, the Popwire Compression Engine, by dispatching
encoding/transcoding tasks to Compression Engines running on separate
computers. With the Cluster Framework, optimized throughput, load balancing
and fault tolerance are achieved, all of which constitute the high availability
essential for mission critical environments.
“At Sun Microsystems, we are pleased to see Popwire products running
on our hardware and the Sun Solaris operating system, and also at having
3 Sweden choose that very combination for their mission-critical systems”,
says Peter Lövgren, Country Manager of Sun Microsystems Sweden.
“Working closely with both 3 Sweden and Sun Microsystems have helped
us create a top of the line product that we are very proud of. We believe
that there is no other software based encoding solution on the market
that delivers the level of performance and fault tolerance that Cluster
Framework does”, says Robert Ekström, CEO, Popwire Technology.
