File sharing application for SK Telecom mobile network

September 12, 2004

SK Telecom demonstrated a file sharing application that lets mobile phone users swap files over its 3G network at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Telecom Asia 2004 conference in Busan, South Korea.

The application, currently under development, creates a peer-to-peer network between SK Telecom's subscribers that allows them to freely swap files such as pictures, ring tones, music or video files.

Lee Jou Young, a developer at IXO Logic, one of two companies developing the application for SK Telecom, said users will also be able to access files stored on PCs.

The application does not guard against transmission of copyright materials despite the controversy surrounding peer to peer programs in PCs.

"We're not thinking about that type of problem," Lee said.

IXO Logic is also developing a mobile blogging service for SK Telecom that lets users share their latest thoughts and activities online.
