September 19, 2004

Research and Markets has announced the addition of 3G Represents an Inflection Point for Enterprise Mobility to their offering.

The enterprise market is evolving toward wireless applications and equipment to support a more mobile and data-driven business environment. The need for data services and applications is forcing enterprise managers to seek out wireless infrastructure vendors and service providers that can support their needs. Those needs will be fulfilled as operators upgrade their networks from current 2.5G standards to third-generation networks such as UMTS and CDMA 1X EV-DO.

The next section of this report reviews the wireless applications and services demanded by enterprises in the U.S. market, the requirements for supporting them, and the implications of 3G on enterprise mobility. Section III examines wireless infrastructure evolution to 3G UMTS, and Section IV outlines the carrier architecture necessary to deploy effective wireless applications for enterprises.
