LG deploys VoIP processor in W-CDMA media gateway

September 20, 2004

Mindspeed Technologies, a supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, announced that LG Electronics is shipping its new Generex-2000 W-CDMA media gateway featuring Mindspeed's Comcerto 600 Series VoIP communications processor.

LGE provides a complete, end-to-end 3G wireless network infrastructure, consisting of base transceiver stations, radio network controllers (RNC) and media gateways to service providers throughout Asia. The Generex-2000 W-CDMA media gateway supports thousands of 3G cellular voice calls, as well as interoperability with 2G mobile phones.

"Mindspeed is the only system-on-a-chip vendor that provides a complete hardware and carrier-class software solution for W-CDMA media gateways including advanced voice signal processing, high-quality echo cancellation and flexible packet processing," said Mr. HC Yi, general manager at LG Electronics.

"LG Electronics is a major force in the cell phone industry and the introduction of the Generex 2000 W-CDMA media gateway based on the Comcerto 600 Series voice processor continues to expand LGE's presence in the infrastructure," said Michael Metzger, executive director of marketing for Mindspeed. "The Generex 2000 media gateway is the result of the strategic relationship between Mindspeed and LG Electronics to deliver next-generation 3G systems for the global wireless infrastructure market."

The Comcerto 600 Series M82610 processor combines high-performance DSP cores and a packet processing engine with industry-standard streaming packet interfaces to provide a high-density VoIP and voice-over-ATM system-on-a-chip.
