TeliaSonera to decide over Danish 3G license fate

September 23, 2004

TeliaSonera will be able make its own decision regarding the fate of its second Danish 3G license. The Danish telecommunications regulator, IT and Telestyrelsen, has given TeliaSonera until the end of January 2005 to decide whether to sell or return the 3G license it acquired when it bought Orange Denmark earlier this year.

TeliaSonera now has the opportunity to sell the license to the highest bidder. The regulator will take back the license if TeliaSonera fail to reach a decision over the overcome of the license by the deadline.

TeliaSonera was one of four operators to win a 3G license in Denmark in 2001. The other three were Orange, TDC Mobile and Hi3G. In August of this year, TeliaSonera announced it had acquired Orange Denmark from France Telecom and in the process gained an extra 3G license.
