Huawei 3G selected by Algeria Telecom Mobile

September 27, 2004

Algeria Telecom Mobile announced on August 29, 2004 that it has selected Huawei as their sole equipment supplier for 3G trial network. This is another important development in the North African Telecom market after Huawei 3G UMTS equipment is deployed in Tunisia 3G trial network.

With 3 mobile operators in Algeria, the market competition is extremely fierce. After multiple technical evaluation and strict test, Algeria Telecom Mobile has decided to adopt Huawei's equipment to construct the nation's first UMTS network. The network will cover main hotspots in Algiers, the Capital city of Algeria, including the Presidential office, the Post and Telecom Department, Algeria Telecom Mobile's headquarters, the International Exhibition Center, the airport, the port, main hotels and main prosperous business areas.

Huawei will provide total end-to-end UMTS solutions, including UMTS radio base station system, core network, 3G mobile intelligent network, 3G mobile data service platform, and 3G handsets. The whole UMTS network is based on 3GPP R4 and the core network is based on softswitch architecture. Huawei will also provide UMTS services, including MMS, VOD, VP, VC and TV on handset.
