Comarco launches Seven.Five test system for EvDO
September 28, 2004
Seven.Five for EvDO, from Comarco Wireless Test Solutions, satisfies the need for a comprehensive test system for the advanced North American EvDO (Evolution Data Only) cellular environment. Seven.Five for EvDO provides the world's first drive-test and in-building-test system that combines an integrated multi-band RF scanning receiver with complete data and video Quality of Service (QoS) tests. These fully integrated features make Seven.Five for EvDO the only tool that can measure QoS from the perspective of the wireless subscriber while providing the root cause for any QoS problems. Launched by Comarco through its Wireless Test Solutions (WTS) group, in partnership with SwissQual AG of Zuchwil, Switzerland, Seven.Five for EvDO will be used by infrastructure providers and cellular carriers throughout North America, speeding network deployment and optimization, as well as benchmarking of the EvDO wireless infrastructure.
America
CDMA-based carriers are quickly enhancing their packet data capabilities to support EvDO throughout North America. Mobile users will be able to connect to corporate Intranets, email servers, the Internet, and other on-line services, allowing for new mCommerce applications, location-based services and other offerings that require fast data throughput. Due to the faster data throughput experienced with EvDO, it is essential that the systems used for measuring throughput do not introduce limitations that render those measurements inaccurate. Limitations are typically introduced when test systems share IP stacks and end-user applications among multiple calling modules at the same time.
Comarco's SBC (Single-Board Computer) architecture ensures that there is a dedicated computer for each calling module, providing an independent and isolated test platform for each phone. Therefore, multiple phone testing is easily and accurately performed with the peace of mind that the data collected is accurate and precise.
"EvDO is quickly gaining acceptance by the carriers, since it gives users comparable wireless download speeds from the Internet to the hard-wired technologies that they have on their PCs," says Greg Maton, senior vice president of Comarco. "Seven.Five for EvDO allows carriers to rapidly analyze problems that occur in their EvDO networks, and find solutions to those problems."
Seven.Five for EvDO
Seven.Five for EvDO is a member of the Seven.Five test family. The test family is a mobile test platform that is adaptable to virtually any test application. It provides wireless infrastructure analysis, benchmarking and optimization for 2G, 2.5G and 3G network deployments, and is capable of simultaneous multiband, multitechnology testing in one unit.
The Seven.Five family now consists of the following nine members:
-- Seven.Five Solo: Ideally suited for network deployment activities, Solo is the only single Calling Module product available with a family of audio and data QoS algorithms. It's the perfect entry-level product, capable of seamless migration to the Seven.Five Duo.
-- Seven.Five Duo: As networks mature the power of a Calling Module plus a scanner is necessary to quickly and efficiently optimize networks. Duo supports up to two Calling Modules, which can have mixed technologies, and one Multi-Band, Multi- Technology RF Scanner. A Portability Kit is available for in-building needs.
-- Seven.Five Navigator: The industry's first dual calling-module system with inertial navigation built in, providing extremely accurate in-building wireless test. It is lightweight, portable and battery powered, making it perfectly suited for evaluating network performance in-building or where pedestrian use is predominant.
-- Seven.Five Multi: Designed for ultimate flexibility and scalability, Seven.Five Multi can house up to any combination of six Calling Modules or Scanners in each chassis. Multiple chassis can be combined to allow for up to 96 Calling Modules. The customer can mix and match technologies for benchmarking applications or configure a system with similar technologies for optimization activities. Multi does it all, and is also available with a Portability Kit for in-building and pedestrian testing needs.
-- Seven.Five for 1X: Satisfies the need for a comprehensive test system for the advanced North American CDMA2000-1X cellular environment.
-- Seven.Five for EvDO: Provides a comprehensive test system for the North American EvDO high-speed data cellular environment.
-- Seven.Five Multi-Band, Multi-Technology RF Scanner: An advanced and accurate scanner for field-test applications. Capable of lightning-fast scans (over 3,000 channels per second) in multiple frequency bands, with multiple technologies, doing DVCC, BSIC and PN decoding simultaneously. The scanner offers spectrum analyzer-type measurements and full baseband decoding for GSM 850/900/1800/1900, EDGE, IS-136, CDMA2000, CDMA2000-1X, CDMA 2000-EvDO and WCDMA.
-- Seven.Five iDEN Scanner: This advanced instrument-grade high-speed scanner serves the cellular radiotelephone market. The iDEN Scanner scans at up to 2,000 channels per second.
-- Seven.Five Data Extractor (DX): A very complete and easy-to-use software application that allows operators to produce comprehensive benchmarking reports, as well as perform desktop network optimization using all of the data collected by the Seven.Five hardware. The Data Interface includes a variety of features for data administration, filtering capability, analysis, statistics, integrated mapping and generation of reports, as well as an interface (ODBC) for third-party software.
