NetHawk WCDMA RNC/Iub simulator for testing HSDPA
September 29, 2004
The NetHawk RNC/Iub Simulator allows NodeB developers to test, verify, and demonstrate NodeB implementation in labs and at their customers' premises.
HSDPA is a key feature for UMTS operators. The NetHawk RNC/Iub Simulator supports testing of this high capacity feature.
The new NetHawk RNC/Iub Simulator version 1.3 introduces four major test applications for NodeB development and promotions:
> BER Tester for HSDPA L1 testing up to 5.3 Mbps
> 3GPP 25.141 test models for NodeB conformance testing
> Internal IP gateway for HSDPA demonstrations
> Virtual Iub option.
The technical enablers of these applications are new 3GPP Release
5 encoders and decoders, support for asymmetric DCH channels, significant
improvement in L1 capacity, support for 2 ms TTI, and accurate synchronization
of the NetHawk N3 Adapter.
The NetHawk RNC/Iub Simulator supports Release 99, Release 4 and
now also Release 5 baseline in NBAP and RRC protocols that specify
HSDPA functionality:
> 3GPP Release 99, March 2002
> 3GPP Release 5, September 2003
> HSDPA Layer1 5.3 Mbps
> NBAP 3GPP, Nokia, Ericsson and Alcatel variants.
Simulator supports asymmetric DCH up to 3.6 Mbps in downlink channels
and 64 kbps in uplink channels.
The Virtual Iub Iub option allows the script development in a workstation
without cabling or Iub-related hardware. Virtual Iub also eliminates
the uncertainty of a real-time RAN environment and frees up the
busy NodeB testing environments.
Other important new features in the NetHawk RNC/Iub Simulator v.
1.3:
> up-to-date decoding of signalling in the 3G Monitoring window
> user friendliness as an improved Help utility
> support for multiple (up to 8) FACH channels.
