Telstra's launches 3G service with Australian Idol

September 5, 2005

Telstra marked the launch of its new high speed mobile service (3GSM) giving its customers the unique chance to watch the video diaries of Australian Idol finalists, as well as access to the widest choice of Australian information and entertainment content from their mobile phone.

Telstra's Head of Pioneers Marketing, Mr Mike Robey, said the new Australian Idol video diaries would be added to the site as they became available and would be among a range of great new mobile phone content available from Telstra.

"These new high speed mobile services also offer Telstra customers new video features including video calling, video MessageBank and video ring tones," Mr Robey said. "The launch of Telstra's new mobile services represents a major shift in the way our customers can communicate and access information on their mobile phone."

Telstra customers can look at content including:

-- Access more than 200 i-mode content sites including video content from NRL, AFL, V8 Supercars and movie trailers from yourMovies;

-- View a range of information from Australian Idol on their mobile phones;

-- Play online games from the latest games developers;

-- Send and receive email from their mobile phone from sites including Yahoo! and Telstra BigPond;

-- View items, place bids and track auctions when out and about on eBay; and

-- Watch video news clips from sites including National Nine News and Sky News.

Telstra customers can access video services in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Canberra.

"So if you are on the train heading home after work, you can now watch the latest news, re-live the video highlights from the weekend footy or make a bid on eBay - all from your mobile phone," Mr Robey said. "Accessing email from the convenience of your mobile phone has also become a modern day reality for Telstra customers with the introduction of Yahoo! and Telstra BigPond email, with Hotmail also coming soon."

Telstra customers have a choice of four new handsets and two new capped plans. Customers who buy a 3G handset on a repayment option can take up the $49 and $79 cap plan with a $5 per month Mobile Surf and Email Pack and get up to $250 or $550 worth of standard voice calls, as well as MessageBank, and text messages. Both capped plans offer a two-month introductory free video call offer.
